Definition
Fatigue Camouflage
noun · pressure & burn / psychological
Fatigue Camouflage describes the masking of exhaustion through activity, productivity, or visible energy that further depletes capacity.
The term is formed from fatigue as depleted internal energy and camouflage as concealment. Tiredness is present, but hidden behind motion.
Instead of resting, slowing, or withdrawing, the individual increases output. Busyness, enthusiasm, humour, or helpfulness are used to maintain the appearance of vitality.
The camouflage works externally. Internally, depletion accelerates. Movement substitutes for recovery.
This pattern often overlaps with Stoic Monkey coping and can culminate in Functional Exhaustion or delayed collapse such as Burn Lag.
Rating on the term
An individual rates high on Fatigue Camouflage when:
- exhaustion is hidden behind competence or cheer
- stopping feels more dangerous than continuing
- energy is performed rather than restored
Lower expression appears when fatigue can be acknowledged without penalty.
