Definition
Signal Fat
noun · attention & perception / psychological
Signal Fat describes a state in which meaningful information loses impact due to prolonged exposure to excessive, low-value signals.
The term is formed from signal as relevant input and fatigue as diminished responsiveness. Attention remains active, but discrimination weakens.
Under Signal Fat, urgency, alerts, and opinions continue to arrive, while the nervous system gradually loses the ability to register what actually matters.
This condition is commonly intensified by Botspamplasticity and can sustain Loopblind behaviour, where reaction replaces discernment.
Rating on the term
An individual rates high on Signal Fat when:
- important information feels flat or interchangeable
- attention is present but ineffective
- everything feels urgent and nothing feels relevant
Lower expression appears when signals can be filtered without effort.
