Installation Process
Step 1: Uninstall Old Programming
Current Setting: “My beliefs are facts/my identity/permanent truths”
New Setting: “My beliefs are inherited software I can choose to update”
The Reframe: Most of your beliefs were installed by parents, schools, media, and culture before you could think critically. They’re not “you” – they’re programs running in the background. Some serve you. Some don’t. Time to audit the code.
Step 2: Update Your Response
Old Response: Defend beliefs automatically, feel attacked when challenged
New Response: “Interesting. Where did I learn to think this way? Is it still useful?”
Step 3: Install New Protocol
When you catch yourself stating an opinion as fact:
- Pause – “Says who?”
- Trace – “Who taught me this? When? Why?”
- Evaluate – “Does this belief help or hinder my actual goals?”
Beta Test Instructions
For the next 3 days, every time you say “I believe…” or “People should…” or “That’s just wrong,” try this:
- Stop mid-sentence
- Ask: “Where did this belief come from?”
- Consider: “What if the opposite were true?”
- Notice: “How does holding this belief affect my life?”
